Gear Review: Campagnolo Bullet 80

I have been searching this year for a set of aero race wheels for my triathlon bike.  Last year, I rented a set of Reynolds for my 140.6 to try to make the effort a little easier. I wasn't concerned about speed as much as effort.  That is still semi-true this season, but I am now getting to the point where I am becoming competitive at shorter distances.  Rather than continue to rent, I looked for something that I could call my own.   First, I went through the tubular vs. clincher debate. Race Report: 2020 Gasparilla Distance Classic 15k

The Gasparilla Distance Classic is an absolute favorite.  I was interested in it prior to moving to Tampa and remain interested even after moving away.  The two day race weekend features four races (15k, 5k, half marathon, 8k) and several challenges with combinations of two or even all four races.  It is a very large field with over 30,000 participating in the whole weekend.  Not only is it a popular winter race, but the field is also very competitive.  The 15k draws elite athletes from all over the country.  It also has a uniquely Tampa flavor.  The city supports this event very well.   A few weeks after the official Gasparilla festival, this race weekend extends the winter traditions of pirate themed festivals of Gasparilla (There is a music, film, and art festival, too).  The courses aren't the most interesting in the world, consisting mostly of trips up and down Bayshore Boulevard.  For those who haven't run Bayshore,...

A Familiar Race

Today is Father's Day.  I am not a father (unless you count my fur-children) but Father's day means the Annapolis Striders' Dawson's Father's Day 10k on the Baltimore Annapolis Trail.  It's not really a trail but a paved bike/run path.  This is an out and back course on mostly flat terrain.  It was my PR 10k last year.  I look forward to this race as the trail is very familiar to me since I run this portion frequently. Yesterday, I needed to do 20 miles on the bike for my training plan.  It was such a beautiful day that I decided to keep riding.  About half-way back on my course, I realized that I had a race the next morning.  In the end, I had to get back to my car regardless so I ended up doing 30 miles.  The tri bike certainly helps reduce the stress on the legs.
